Science First Hand
Each Monday, students in the Gloria J. Parks after school program can be found looking at insects, making volcanoes and experimenting with chemical reactions, making paper bridges or any number of other hands on science investigations. Through a partnership with Science Firsthand, youth who participate in out of school time programs are matched with adult mentors for experiential science. Students have said that they didn’t know science could be fun. Mentors do not need a background in science, just curiosity and the desire to help youth discover their own curiosity.
