Greeting From The Human Services Director
Hello, I am Carla A. Murphy, the new Human Services Director at Gloria J. Parks Community Center. Throughout the past fifteen years, I have served the Western New York Community as a Community Affairs Representative for Adelphia Cable Company, New York State Licensed Group Family Day Care Provider, New York State Certified Foster Parent for Child & Family Services, Professionally Trained U.S. Career Institute Wedding & Event Consultant and business owner, Unique Expressions By Andrea, an event Planning Company.
I have also served as the Greater Hope Baptist Church Youth Director, Great Lakes Baptist AssociationYoung People’s Department Co-Director and Co-Regional Director of the Empire Baptist Convention of New York Inc. Young People’s Department. As a Youth Director, I have had many opportunities to provide support to several youth and young adults in the community. As a leader in these organizations, I have planned tutoring programs, social events, fundraising events, retreats, conferences, workshops, field trips, crafts, picnics, parties, activities and more.
It is my desire, as the Director of Human Services, to lead the Seniors and Youth of Gloria J. Parks Community Center with a spirit of Excellence. My goals are to increase membership and programming, improve literacy and life skills through the 4-H “R.I.S.E.” Curriculum. This program focuses on teaching Respect and Integrity through Skills and Education. I am committed to partnering with the stafff and members of the community to enrich the quality of life in the University District.
In an effort to improve our service to the Senior population, we will extend our hours of operation beginning October 1, 2008 untill 2:00pm. Monday-Friday. During this time we will have live entertainment, crafts, workshops, computer lessons, fundraisers, and parties. I would like to create an atmosphere that will become their, ” Home Away From Home. ”
In addition to our 4-H After School Program, I am focused on improving Youth character building and diversity.
It is important to increase our presence in the community by actively participating in partnerships with other Human Service Organizations, Educators, Students, Politicians, Neighbors, Families and Friends. As we work to enhance programming at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center, I will lead the Human Services Department with Vision, Integrity, Structure and Accountability.
