Greetings from the Athletics Department
Hi, my name is Kevin Ferguson and I have been at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center for over 16 years. During those years I have had the privilege of working with a great number youth who through the programming available at the Center, learned the skills necessary to be successful adults.
I am also the vice president of Board 53 High School Basketball Officials and a Division I Men’s Official. Through my peers in these programs, I have been able to have the Center become one of the leading training areas for up and coming basketball officials while also providing younger basketball teams a chance to experience official league play.
I am also proud to say that my Department has been able to run a variety of tournaments and leagues benefiting not only the Center but, also other outside groups. The Aaron Graves tournament for example provides funding to a St. Joseph’s Scholarship program, the Scramble Fore the Kids Golf Tournament benefits the Coaches For Cancer foundation and the Phil Scaffidi Memorial Basketball Tournament all funds raised supports youth programs at the Center.
In addition, we have a re-designed Cardio & Fitness Room Located on the Second Floor of the Community Center. The Cardio & Fitness Rooms are an example of the Center’s desire to fill the needs of today’s society by promoting health and well-being. The rooms come equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers, climbers, bicycles, recumbent bikes & Universal Weight Machines.
I have in the works a number of new programs and would love to hear your ideas on what you would like the Center to provide. Here’s a list of exciting activities at the center and encourage you and your family to join us at the Community Center. Also, Kevin is the coordiantor for Baby/Bridal Showers and Business Meetings room rentals ($50 per hour) at the center our biggest room will accommodate groups of 75.
